You have a really complex program of work in front of you. You’ve got your problem statement well articulated, but you’re not quite sure how to mobilize.

You know you’re staring down the barrel of a 12 month plus piece of work. All eyes are going to be on this one up and down the organization. It’s big. You could let this paralyze you. You could talk about it and think about it for weeks and over intellectualise it. Alternatively you could just get started.

Get a few crude thoughts on a page. Pull in your people. The ones who know lots about different parts of the business and like to bounce things around. The listeners, the quiet ones, the vocal extroverts. Make sure they’re a good mix and know they’ll challenge you. Put your ego in your back pocket and be a little brave. Pull out those first thoughts. If one of the first comments is “I don’t think we’ve got that quite right” …….lean in. Bingo. You’re on your way.

You now have your crew actively engaged in thinking about the problem at hand. You’ll walk away from that pow wow with a much clearer view of the next steps. Rinse and repeat that process and you’ll begin to collectively form a workable plan. You’re on your way.
