I’ve worked in a mix of permanent and contract roles throughout my career, across lots of disciplines and loads of different companies. It’s taken me a while to work out which one I prefer. I felt like I “should” enjoy the security of permanent work’, particularly as a mother. It took a stint in a Head of Product role where I spent 8 hours a day sedentary in meetings to realise that my colleague was right when she said, “what are you doing, you were born to contract!”

My truth. I love the hype of a project. That start of the project, when everything is spaghetti and there is no form and function. It terrifies some people but I love that bit. And honestly nothing fires me up more than a good problem to solve. I get a huge amount of enjoyment from flexing the strategic and tactical parts of my brain, across all parts of a business and actually delivering outcomes. I also enjoy the flexibility it brings for me and my family.

So if this is you too, don’t fight it, own it. There’s a workforce rebirth happening that is embracing people just like us. In and out suits when budgets are tight. We’re fluid and business needs are too. Tap your network and stay active out there. You do you.
